Is Getting Teeth Braces Worth It?
Years ago children were scared of teeth straightening as the treatment was a painful process using metal clamps. But since then dentistry evolved and made teeth straightening a process that involves less pain. Million's have benefited from wearing dental braces. The braces treatment is a time taking treatment procedure which involves movement of teeth when braces gets tightened. For best results the treatment usually takes at least two years. Braces have four important components, they are:
Brackets: Brackets are metal pieces which are carefully attached at the center of the tooth with the help of a glue. The glue is similar to cement as it is very strong and helps to keep bracket on tooth. The glue is then dried using a blue light. A bracket also keep the teeth clean. These brackets are usually made of stainless steel or clear ceramics.
Arch Wire: Arch wire is a thin metal piece which is placed over brackets. The arch wire is responsible for the movement of teeth. It puts pressure on the teeth in the right direction in which the teeth needs to be aligned. The development of arch wire has made the job easy for both orthodontist and patient by reducing the amount of time between the visits.
O-Rings: O-Rings also known as ligature elastics are what hold the arch wire in place on the brackets. O-rings are usually removed when braces are tightened. Usually these little rings are grey or clear in colour. They are also available on plenty of colours. Self-ligating brackets does not require o-rings.
Elastics: Elastics are only used when there is a case of overbite or underbite. Not everyone will need elastics. The dentist will analyze and decide if elastic is needed or not. Elastics are capable of creating more pressure and tension in a specific direction for your teeth. Wearing elastics is essential for the getting rid off the braces on time.
Retainers: Retainers play an important role in orthodontics. They are used to hold the teeth in right place after the braces are removed. It is recommended to wear retainers as long as you could after the braces come off. Bonded or fixed retainers are also avaialble which are made up of wire and is bonded to the lower front of the teeth to keep them straight. It also helps to close the space between those teeth.
HOW BRACES WORK.?
Over the treatment course, when the braces are on the dental brace cause your teeth to loosen and starts putting pressure on the teeth. One side of the membrane surrounding the teeth start expanding and the other side constricts. The teeth is now free to move as it is now loosened from the gum line. The rest is a very slow process in which the bone grows to support and adjusts the tooth and align it in the right position. When the teeth move to new position they become loose gradually. It takes about 1-2 years to achieve the straight and beautiful smile.
