About celebrities of Brit Awards
The 02 is a place of choice for more and more awards and the Brit Awards 2011 were the latest to fall under its hypnotic spell laser last night. But the problem is that this excellent backdrop for anything and anyone who climbs up on his stage seems to represent the shadows. Alan Carr huffed and puffed to reach the end of the catwalk and the cheering died out for Dermot O'Leary, minutes before he was anywhere near the stage.
Take That, veteran winners would think you would have taped it, but they also came to the Mike in a neglected state, and seemed too tired to make a proper acceptance speech together between them. To self-legend Roger Daltrey was looking small in spite of the initial burst of enthusiasm at his presence, but he died of, not before he was old, as he did once, but at least before he would get to the end of the take-off and landing strip .
I could not put my finger on it, but the whole affair seemed hopelessly off-key for some reason. The size of the venue may be one reason that his drunken, inattentive public another. James Cordon Present was easier to wake up at his usual best and friendly a few pounds by the look of him, but his cheeky charm to an otherwise comatose patients. Maybe it hurts me to say, but the current trend that exists not only in the music industry to turn to for new personalities to idols before their time, ultimately backfired. The British were on a massive stage, suitable for Nelson Mandela welcome home or a revival of Paul McCartney, but also too big for a long cotton "Hi!" Most of the performers and presenters were unheard of just a few years ago and even now only just on the first wave of media success. It felt a bit like the precocious child was pushed out of the stroller and expected to do Royal Variety Performance. Maybe it's the Simon Cowell influence that this industry is in a panic, or maybe the recession has depressed all, but it does not seem to have any real stars, which are currently large enough to inspire, to a place like this.
