The Bottom Line

A hit with the MTV set on TRL-Total Request Live, Carson Daly pulled much of that audience to his gig on Last Call. It?s a young, hip show, connecting with teenage audiences ? just the group that would say up ?til after 1:30 to see the show.

  • Hip
  • Intimate
  • Features great music

Cons
  • Short at a half-hour
  • On very late (get out your DVRs)
  • Young

  • Audiences were shocked when illusionist David Blaine seemingly "pulled out" his heart and fainted.
  • The show actually pays a flat fee of $14 to each person attending the program.

Guide Review - Overview: Last Call with Carson Daly

I?m neither a frequent Last Call viewer or a fan of the program, but that might be because I?ve moved out of both the 18-24 demographic as well as the 25-35 demographic.

It is a hip program, owing much of its base to Daly?s MTV-following, and Daly is a likable, giving host. No doubt he will mature into a more successful program someday (I?d say expect Late Night with Carson Daly to be a distinct possibility when Conan moves to The Tonight Show).

The show is a half-hour long, except on Fridays, when it stretches to a full hour. Guests are an eclectic mix of celebrities and musicians. Of particular note, rather than a house band, the show features a guest band each week, such as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the Gov?t Mules.
