Parachute Play Ideas

    Para-Swap

    • To play para-swap, each child is assigned a number. The children then pull the parachute up high over their heads and the leader, who can be a child or an adult leader, calls out two numbers. The children with those numbers must run under the parachute, swapping places, before the parachute comes back down.

    Popcorn

    • Popcorn requires several small inflatable balls. Throw the balls into the middle of the parachute and have the kids make waves to bounce the balls all around. For a challenge, ask the kids to keep the popcorn on the parachute.

    Igloo

    • To make an igloo, children lift the parachute up over their heads and then pull the parachute back down behind them as they sit on the edge. This traps the air inside the parachute, creating a dome that children can sit inside.

    Color Jumping

    • Young children can practice their colors with this game. One or two children jump into the middle of the parachute while the others create waves. The children are instructed to jump on particular colors of the parachute.
