    Install a Party Tarp

    • 1). Lay the tarp flat and carefully check for any area that may be damaged and in need of repair. Pay close attention to crucial spots such as seams, corners and the side holes which you will use in securing the tarp. Use the tape to fix any areas in need of repair.

    • 2). Decide where you want to place the tarp. Typically, this should be an area set apart from the rest of the party area such as a corner of the back yard where water will not flow off of the edges unto other items you have set up. This should also be a key area of access for cooking and grilling, like the back of a shed or barn where you can install mounting hooks for the tarp. There should be trees or other secure points at which the tarp may be fastened close enough to access using the twine.

    • 3). Determine the high and low points of your party tarp. Secure you rope to the mounting hook at which the tarp will be at its highest point. Then, bring the rope over to the party tarp’s lowest point (usually a tree) and secure it tightly. There should be as much tension on the rope as possible. Try wrapping it around the tree once and pulling until taught. (This is where a second pair of hands can be particularly useful.) Secure the rope completely by tying a knot, then bring the end of the rope to the next nearest tree for additional securing and support.

    • 4). Drape the entire party tarp over the rope you have just drawn from the highest to lowest point., unfolding any folds in the tarp while you drape. Next, fasten the party tarp to the highest mounting hook first, then out to the sides, gradually moving to the lowest mounting hook that you have installed. Pull the tarp out to its full length across the rope, allowing the mounting hooks to hold it stable.

    • 5). Use the twine (and ladder, if necessary) to secure the tarp at each available point. If the silver loops in the tarp do not provide enough fastening points, tarp clips can be purchased at most home department stores. The tarp should be tied tightly to all points at which it is secured, starting with the highest point and moving down. Make sure the tarp is not lose or flapping when tying the twine as this will be unfavorable in the event of rain or extreme wind. Remember, when you have finished installing the party tarp, water should roll smoothly off the lowest point.
