Choosing the perfect picnic spot
In England, we work longer hours than the rest of Europe, and on the whole have worse weather, so when we do have a little bit of sun in the summer it is good to make the most of it and spend some time outside with the children. Meal times are traditionally "family time", so a picnic is the perfect way of getting everyone together for some "family time" while being outside and enjoying the sunshine. Food and drink is often thought to be the most important part of the picnic. Enjoying the picnic will depend on the food and drink, however it will also depend on the location of the picnic.
There is a wide range of locations which are perfect for eating outdoors without having to travel too far.
Parks You will normally find a beautiful large garden or park in your local village or town, which makes the perfect picnic locations! As the park is quite large it means there is plenty of space for all the other families with the same idea as you, and it also provides plenty of space for games and activities after you have finished eating.
Beaches Taking a trip to the beach may be too much for most, however if you are lucky enough to live close to the coast then it can be a fun day out. Sit and stare out across the beautiful sea while enjoying the picnic. Despite the fact everybody thinks of the beach as being a childrens play area, it makes a beautiful, romantic setting for a lovely picnic for a couple. To stop the children getting the sand in their food, you could either take a folding picnic table with you or find a wooden picnic table along the beach to sit at. Once you have finished the picnic hampers you have plenty of activities you can do, play in the sand, water sports, or even take a stroll along the beach front and drop in and out of the various souvenir shops.
Theme Park While the previous two options where a day out focused around a picnic, it is just as easy to plan a day out and fit a picnic in. How about a theme park or activity centre? A safari park? A picnic can be squeezed in on pretty much any day out. By taking a picnic with you when you go out, you will not only get a nice meal but it will also work out cheaper than eating out. Taking a picnic allows everything to sit around together and enjoy a break and have something to drink and eat. After you have all finished eating and relaxed you can get on with the rest of the day.
No matter where or when you are planning a picnic, they are one of the easiest ways of eating out. You do not need to worry about spending too much, or if a restaurant will serve something that everybody likes or not. Simply pack up the food and drink into wither a large picnic hamper or several smaller picnic hampers and off you go. If the picnic is just for adults don't forget to pack the wine and wine glasses into the hampers securely so they so not rattle or smash in the hamper basket.
