How to Cast on a Knitting Board With a Purl Stitch
- 1). Anchor the end of your yarn in the notch on the board leaving about a 3-inch taiI, if you are starting a fresh project with a purl stitch [as opposed to switching to a purl stitch in an already existing project]. Cast on your project, using the cast-on method called for in your pattern. Wrap the yarn around each peg. It is important not to wrap the pegs too tightly when casting on stitches on a knitting board, as this could lead to an uneven edge or cause your piece to unravel. Wrap each peg securely, but with enough "give" to allow you to pull the stitch off the peg when you begin to stitch.
- 2). Move from the left side to the right side of the board. Bring the yarn in front of each peg from the left side to right below the yarn wrapped on the peg.
- 3). Follow your pattern to continue to cover the appropriate pegs moving towards the right.
- 4). Move from the right side of the board and bring the yarn in front of each peg from the right side to left below the yarn wrapped on the peg. Continue moving towards the left until all the pegs are covered.
- 5). Use your knitting hook to grab the bottom wrap on the peg from the inside of the knitting board and pull it up so that both wraps are removed from the peg.
- 6). Place the wrap that is now on the knitting hook back onto the peg, letting the other wrap fall down to complete the stitch. Repeat steps 2 through 6 for each row of purl stitches.
