- 1). Choose an appropriate curtain design. Figure out the design that will give you the kind of effect that you want to see in your living area. It should complement the existing décor and color theme of your living room.
- 2). Choose the right fabric to use. Different fabrics can add different kinds of effects to a window space. For instance, if you have decided on having layered curtains, you can make use of a combination of printed and plain curtain fabric. Choosing a pastel color palette of soft fabric sets up a romantic mood. Sheer curtains are an ideal complement to floral arrangements and themes.
- 3). Prepare the materials. Have all the necessary measurements that will guide you in cutting and fitting the curtain to the window. Do this to make sure that your curtain will fit and look professional. These measurements guide you in doing all the necessary markings before fabric cutting and will minimize waste.
- 4). Mark the fabric according to the measurements that you have made. Cut the fabric precisely through the lines.
- 5). Press the area that is intended for hems. Fold about 1/2 inch in at the edges of the cut fabric. Press the seam with a hot iron. This will keep the fold into place.
- 6). Prepare the thread in your sewing machine. Position the fabric on the sewing machine to start stitching through the hem. Cut of excess thread.
