How to Make Weedless Hooks
- 1). Cut a 12-inch piece of fishing wire. In most situations, 20-lb. wire works well.
- 2). Tie a half-hitch knot to secure the wire to the hook. (See the Resources section for knot tying.)
- 3). Push the knot up the shank so it is flush with the eye of the hook. Wrap the wire tightly around the shank, just below the knot, three times.
- 4). Bend the wire so it makes a small loop. The small loop should rest just above the barb of the hook. The free end of the wire should face toward the shank of the hook.
- 5). Wrap the free end of the wire three times around the shank of the hook. Cut off any excess wire.
- 6). Coat the wire with epoxy where it is wrapped around the hook shank.
- 7). Allow the epoxy to dry at least 24 hours before using the weedless hook.
