Dog Aggression - More Strategies to Control Your Dog

29
A dominant dog should never be allowed to sleep where he/she wants, eat first, and eat from the table.
This will help the dog reframe its pack order.
It is extremely important for the dog to undergo obedience training.
Motivational training is a small part of the aggression control strategy.
The dog must also be corrected for not minding.
If the dog still displays aggression when corrected, or attempts to attack the owner, the dog may need professional training and to be muzzled.
Any toys that the dog plays with should be taken away by the owner.
The toys are put away and the dog can not play with them while the owner is away.
Again, this has to do with pack order.
A pack leader will view a toy as his possession and if the dog is allowed to play with the toy at will, it will reinforce the pack leader instinct in the dog.
If you are training a puppy for protection, then playing tug of war can assist the puppy in developing its protection instinct.
Playing tug of war with your dog is encouraged, but the toy should be taken away at the end of the game.
The toy should not be left for the dog to take away and chew on it.
If you catch dominance aggression in a male puppy at a young age, it is recommended to neuter him.
Generally, if the puppy is less than 6 months of age, neutering is effective.
A dog older than 18 months will not be drastically affected in temperament by neutering.
If you are raising your dog for protection, neutering is not an option, and aggression will need to be controlled with another technique.
