What Years of US Coins Are Worth Saving?
- All Lincoln wheat cents, including the common dates, are worth saving. The rarest dates are the 1909-S, 1909-S VDB , 1914-D and 1931-S.
- Buffalo nickels are always worth saving, but there are also some valuable Jefferson nickels. Save the nickels from late 1930s, the 1950-D and silver war nickels.
- Dimes, quarters and half dollars from 1964 and earlier are made of 90 percent silver. Half dollars from 1965 to 1969 are made of 40 percent silver.
- All silver dollars are worth saving. The U.S. Mint made large silver dollars off and on until 1935.
- The Eisenhower dollars made in the 1970s are worth saving; however, the standard issue coins that went into circulation are not silver.
