For the 1966 model year, Ford truck buyers could select from a range of trucks including 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton and 1-ton models with the option of four-wheel drive. Ford offered its heavier-duty trucks, the F-250 and F-350, as four-door Crew Cabs with seating for six, and 1966 was the final year of the fourth-generation Ford F-series.

    Models and Body Styles

    • The 1/2-ton F-100 model came with either a 6.5-foot box riding on a 115-inch wheelbase or an 8-foot box riding on a 129-inch wheelbase. Buyers could order both versions as a Flareside (with fenders outside the box) or Styleside (with fenders inside the box). The short-bed version also came as chassis only, chassis and cab only or as a stake truck. The 3/4-ton F-250 rode on a 129-inch wheelbase and also came in all the above-mentioned styles. It could also come as a four-door Crew Cab pickup (or chassis and cab only) with a wheelbase of 147 inches. The one-ton F-350 came in the same body styles as the F-250 but with a wheelbase of 132 inches for the standard cab and 152 inches for the Crew Cab. F-100 and F-250 models came with either two- or four-wheel drive, while Ford offered the F-350 as two-wheel-drive only.

    Engines

    • Ford offered three engines in its 1966 trucks. The base engine was a 240-cubic-inch inline six that produced 150 gross horsepower and 234 foot-lbs. of torque. Related to this powerplant was an optional 300-cubic-inch inline six, which made 170 gross horsepower and 283 foot-lbs. of torque. Both sixes had a bore (cylinder diameter) of 4 inches, and they had strokes (piston traveling distances) of 3.18 and 3.98 inches, respectively. Also available was a V-8 displacing 352 cubic inches, known as the Interceptor. It generated 250 horsepower and 352 foot-lbs. of torque. It had a bore of 4 inches and a stroke of 3.5 inches, and it featured a two-barrel carburetor.

    Other Specs

    • Standard features for 1966 included silver-painted hubcaps, a padded dash, windshield washers and twin I-beam independent front suspension (except for the F-350). A three-speed manual was the standard transmission; optional were a heavy-duty three-speed manual, a four-speed manual and a Cruise-O-Matic automatic.
