Activities for Teen Bible Study
- Christian music has long been dominated by the psalms and the beautiful hymns. However, many teenagers do not identify with this kind of music and want to listen to music that sounds more like what their generation likes. Luckily, there is Christian rock and pop music available. These Christian artists sing songs of praise and rejoicing and have positive and uplifting lyrical themes. Having a sing-a-long during your Bible study can help keep your teens excited and positive. Print lyric sheets and let people volunteer to sing. Don't force anybody to participate. However, most teens will want to sing-a-long to these positive tunes.
- Most teens in Bible study will have a very strong understanding of the Bible. Why not test their knowledge in a fun and rewarding way? Set up a Bible Jeopardy quiz tournament. Write up a set of Bible questions. Divide your group up into two teams. Send one student from each team to the blackboard. Ask them the Bible question and give them the chance to write their answer. Whoever finishes first gets a point. Do this through your whole list of questions. Whichever team gets the most points wins. Give the members on that team gift certificates or some other reward for winning. However, the losing team should win a small consolation prize as well.
- Sometimes it's a good idea to take some time off from studying so hard and have a relaxing time making something fun. Biblical arts and crafts are an enjoyable way to worship and celebrate. Let your teens be creative. A Popsicle-stick model of Noah's Ark would be a wonderful thing to create. Using small plastic animals to decorate the ark would make it seem lifelike. Re-creating biblical scenes and characters is a wonderful way for kids to get hands on in their worship.
- Speaking of re-creating biblical scenes, another excellent way to do that is to create biblical plays. Cast your teens as characters from a specific scene in the Bible. Why not re-create Moses' confrontation with the Pharaoh? How about the Sermon on the Mount? Imagine your teens' excitement as they relieve these biblically important situations. They can really feel the emotion that their characters were feeling. Try to dress them up as closely to their characters as possible. Though they are older now, most kids still like dressing up and pretending to be somebody else.
