How to Replace the Battery on a 1991 Corvette
- 1). Turn the Corvette's ignition to the "OFF" position. Shift the transmission into park or first gear. Release the hood latch and open the hood.
- 2). Remove the 10 mm bolt holding the horn to the firewall using a 10 mm box-end wrench. Disconnect the horn's electrical connector and set the horn aside.
- 3). Loosen the bolts holding the battery leads to the battery terminals using an 8 mm box-end wrench. Remove the leads from the battery. Remove the bolt securing the battery hold-down wedge to the battery tray using a 13 mm socket and a 3/8-inch ratchet. Remove the battery hold-down wedge.
- 4). Hold the battery securely with two hands and lift it out of the engine compartment. Carefully place the new battery in the battery tray. Reinstall the battery hold-down wedge.
- 5). Clean any corrosion present on the battery leads with a wire brush. Reconnect the battery leads and reinstall the horn. Start the engine to confirm that the battery operates properly.
