Can Synchronicity Help Solve Problems? Jung Thought So

17
Call it synchronicity or coincidence, the term was popularized by famous psychologist Carl Jung.
The scarab beetle story he wrote about went viral for his time - it was the 1920's.
In a nutshell, he was treating a woman during a psychotherapy session when a strange event took place.
She had had a dream in which a scarab beetle played a role.
Suddenly, a similar large beetle flew into the room where they were working.
The odd event actually contributed to the woman breaking a psychological 'block'.
The famous psychologist began to further explore the phenomenon of synchronicity, aka coincidance (a term I coined to indicate the dynamic and oft times upbeat essence of the phenomenon).
Other psychologists and physicians who have focused on the phenomenon include Stanislav Grof, Dr.
Wayne Dyer and Dr.
Deepak Chopra.
Grof suggested that psyche and matter are not really independent of one another, as we believe.
A fascinating source of Aha Moments, we have received many amazing stories from readers and have coined the upbeat term, CoinciDance in relation to the phenomenon.
Might as well have some fun while we're at it! What is Synchronicity? Wikipedia describes it as "the experience of two or more events that are apparently causally unrelated occurring together in a meaningful manner.
To count as synchronicity, the events should be unlikely to occur together by chance.
" As an observer, you will be familiar with the feeling that the synchronicity elements seem to be connected in theme, in your life or/and in your thoughts.
This, even though no common physical cause is in evidence.
Can Synchronicity Help Solve Your Problem? You may also be familiar with the feeling that the synchronicity seems to be a guidepost, appearing to answer questions in your life, or help you solve problems.
The most well known expert on this feature of the phenomenon is Robert Moss, MA, best-selling novelist, journalist and scholar.
In a 2009 CBC radio interview, he explained how he uses a 'question technique' to help him find answers to pressing problems, thinking about the question before sleep, and sometimes seeing answers as he goes about his day, sometimes in strange places like billboards! With cultures all over the world recognizing the phenomenon of synchronicity, it remains difficult to prove on a scientific basis.
A balanced, inquisitive perspective is important, while perhaps making note of the synchronicity events in your own life, and seeing how they can help trigger positive change behaviors.
