How to Increase the Depth of Focus
- 1). Reduce the aperture to let less light through the lens. Change the aperture size by adjusting the camera's "f-stop" to a higher number. This varies by camera, but most digital SLR cameras have an "f-stop" dial near the shutter-release.
- 2). Point the camera at the subject and focus to infinity by focusing at the farthest distance the lens will let you.
- 3). Find the point at which everything farther away is in focus. This is called the hyperfocal point.
- 4). Point the lens at this distance, angling the lens towards the ground. Refocus the lens to this distance, and you will have reached your maximum focal length. Press the shutter-release to capture the image. Take a few images, varying the f-stop to find the best combination.
