Keeping Your Clothes Smelling Fresh
One of the reasons why many people say that keeping your washing machine clean and odor-free is important is the fact that any smell that your washing machine might have can easily cling to even your newly washed clothes.
The good news, however, is that, if this should happen to you, there is really no need for you to buy expensive detergents or fabric softeners as the most effective solution to keep the musty smell out of your clothes can be found within your kitchen. Which item in your kitchen? The white vinegar!
Using white vinegar in order to remove the musty smell from your clothes has long been a tried-and-tested way. Apart from clothes, you can also use white vinegar to take away the musty smell from your washing machine and a load of other home appliances. Of course, a follow-though with a basking soda can remove any vinegar smell that might linger.
As with your previous laundry sessions, you need first to separate your white from colored clothes and towels. No need to worry about forming a separate pile for those smelly towels. The musty smell towels have do not run the possibility of being able to cling to other clothes. Once you have separated the clothes, get your washer ready by pouring one cap of white vinegar into the water.
Once you have done this, load the clothes, including those with musty towel smell, and then run the cycle. If after a few cycles and your towels and clothes still smell musty, Soak them in a separate tub with water and a cup of vinegar. You can leave them overnight and then wash and soap them the following day.
If you are going to put the vinegar along with the detergent, make sure that your detergent does not have any adverse reaction to vinegar. Evidence of adverse reaction would be the clumping of the detergent particles. If this happens, change the detergent that you are using or put the vinegar and run a cycle before you put the detergent. Once you have done these steps, you would be surprised at how easy it is to remove that pesky musty towel smell.
