Want a Healthy Way to Lose Weight? Turn Off the TV!

26
Do you find it easy to over eat at night? This is a common problem and can be especially frustrating if you are trying to find a healthy way to lose weight.
When we eat too much food at the end of the day, it results in us exceeding our calorie target consumption for the day, and hence we put on more weight.
Worse still perhaps, it makes us feel less like having breakfast the next day and we all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Even worse than this, by skipping breakfast we are more likely to eat the wrong kind of snack later in the morning.
This downward spiral of eating behavior needs to be stopped fast or we will never find that healthy way to lose weight.
There is really only one main reason for the evening over-consumption of food and that is boredom.
Boredom includes watching television or any other mindless pursuit which causes us to be idle, which in turn becomes a cue for serial snacking.
Does this sound familiar? If so, here are some suggested actions to keep you occupied as a healthy way to lose weight: oLearn something new oTake up a new hobby oDo a yoga class oWalk the dog oPhone a friend.
All of these are successful ways of combating non-hungry eating at night.
However if you are genuinely watching television for relaxation and enjoyment, but find that over-grazing in front of the TV has become a habit for you, then try to change it in some way.
This may just be sitting in a different chair or watching the set in a different room - just change the routine as a means to break the pattern of unnecessary eating.
