27
If you were to try to pick up a guitar and simply play, you won't get far without knowing the chords.
The chords are what help you put together songs, and if you're just starting out you'll need to start from the ground up.
There are about 8-18 beginner guitar tabs that you will need to master before you do anything.
The chords A Major, A Minor, C, D, Dm, E, Em, F and G are the essentials that you need to start out with.
Many are amazed at how these very easy chords can add up to a number of famous rock songs from popular bands like Van Halen, Metallica and a host of others.
Once you do learn each one of these tabs, you will then need to put them together in such a way that you create these famous songs we all grew up with.
Where is the best place to begin with beginner guitar tabs, you may wonder? What you will do first is to find a chord family, and then practice it until you've mastered the family.
For chord families, we have in mind the A, D, G and C families.
These chord families contain the tabs you will learn.
An example would be how the A family has the A, D and E chords; the D family contains the D, Em, G and A chords.
Mastering the tab system will have you mastering one family at a time.
Another thing that you can do is to use a guitar chord "charge," which illustrates for you where to place your fingers properly on their chords by using a diagram.
You can also try to find the chords to songs that are beginner level, and you can do this easily online.
There are many famous songs that use only 3-4 chords.
If you want to ace the beginner guitar tabs, then you simply must practice, practice, and practice some more to nail it.
Once you're done with one chord family, then you should advance to the next, mastering them as you go.
Knowing more than one family, you will want to work on transitions from one chord family to the next, and do it smoothly.
Upon mastering these basic chords, you can advance onto learning Barre chords, and then onto the even more complex varieties.
However, before advancing too far, you need to practice the 7th and 7th minor chords, doing so will enable you to learn the Barre chords.
Learn the basics at your own pace until you're good enough to do them without looking.
The better you become at transitions between tabs, the better off you'll be to play other songs.
