Where Are You Going? "Crazy, And You?" She Asked
The other day, I boarded an aircraft to take a trip across the United States.
There was this lady sitting in first class and we got to talking, and I asked her where she was going and guess what she told me? She said to me that she was going crazy and then she asked where I was going.
We both laughed, especially considering the flight was delayed (weather), and then the airline seemed to be somewhat frenzied to get us all on board and get the show on the road.
It was my guess that the airliner was late, and it needed to get to its next destination on time for all the connecting flights.
After all, airlines lose money when their connecting flights don't make it, and people transfer to other airplanes only to find out that the airplane they were waiting to transfer to had already taken off.
It wasn't that the airline was hysterical or overly frantic, but the passenger next to me seemed to be.
At first I thought she was joking when she said she was crazy, but as I got to talking to her it appeared to me that she might actually have lost some of her marbles.
She wasn't delirious, demented, or deranged - she was a different type of crazy.
She was somewhat scatty, unbalanced, and a little bit wild.
I considered her to be a little wacky, but far from being insane, or on the lunatic fringe.
Some of her comments about politics, her travels, and the problems she was having in relationships and her family seemed to be somewhat impractical, ridiculous, illogical, and often incoherent.
The stories just didn't seem to add up, but who am I to judge, I was just there for the ride, and she was someone to talk with.
She did not seem to be unwise, but she did appear to be unreasonable and unrealistic, and pretty irrational as far as I could tell.
Was she mad I thought? Did she have psychological issues, or maybe she was ADHD, bipolar, or had just had a lot of traumatic experiences in her life, and who was I to judge? Who knows, maybe she is calm, collective, and a comforting person when things aren't so chaotic.
Maybe the late aircraft flight, coupled with the delays, had taken their toll.
Maybe it was just that she had a few too many drinks waiting for boarding the plane? Who am I to say? But I ask you, "where are you going today?" - And don't tell me you're going crazy too.
