The power of Domestic Biogas Plant Technology

13
Biogas Technology has great potential in areas where cattle are kept at zero grazing. Biogas is virtually identical to fossil natural gas, only instead of taking 65 million years to make, it can be made every day in our own backyard using a simple biodigester that requires no moving parts, special equipments or chemicals.

This technology is a particularly useful system in the Indian economy, and can fulfill several end uses. The gas is useful as a fuel substitute for firewood, dung, agricultural residues, petrol, diesel and electricity depending on the nature of the task, and local supply conditions and constraints, thus supplying energy for cooking and lighting.

Domestic Biogas Plant produces renewable fuel from organic biomass and is primarily used in developing countries and rural areas as an alternative to using fossil fuels, whose combustion contributes to global warming. Animal wastes are inherently anaerobic and release methane into the atmosphere during the process of decomposition unless they are managed. Through the use of domestic Biogas Plants, the natural generation of methane can be captured and used as a clean, non toxic fuel source. Furthermore, the use of methane as a fuel source will offset the need for fossil fuels.

Constructing a Domestic Biogas Plant and Monitoring:

In tropical environments, the biogas mixing tank may be constructed out of cement blocks, and is placed underground. Constructing a domestic biogas plant requires basic building materials and can be done by hand. Common materials include cement blocks, rebar, materials for building a roof over the digester, shovels for digging, PVC piping and a safety valve. The average construction time using manual labor is about one week.

Using bio-methanisation technology all domestic bio waste including waste water can be treated hygienically and biogas, a very good cooking fuel is produced. This helps to prevent tendency to throw the waste materials in roads and public places.

Importance of Recycling and Waste Management:

Recycling of waste is one of the best ways for you to have a positive impact on the world in which we live.

As we go through our bins sorting rubbish into recycling piles, many people wonder what the benefits of recycling actually are. There are a few key areas where recycling has a particular impact and are important.

One important feature of recycling is that it helps keep rubbish out of landfill sites. Landfill sites store all kinds of waste and rubbish, however much of this waste is not biodegradable, meaning that it will stay in its existing form in the landfill site for many years to come-perhaps many hundreds of years to come. This means that the landfill sites become full and that new sites need to be found.

Waste Management can be part of the solution in two ways: one is through waste reduction and two is through recycling. Consistent waste reduction and recycling activities mean there will be less waste materials to be sent to the landfills and incinerators. As such the emission of green house gas and other forms of pollutant will be reduced by a large percentage. Reusing and recycling of used items will also result in less production of new products and this helps in the conversation of natural resources.

Some of the benefits of Recycling Of waste are:
  • Prevents the diversion of the useful materials to the landfill.
  • Reduces the consumption of precious raw materials and limited natural resources.
  • Reduction in air and water pollution.
  • Reduction in the size of the land fills.
  • Preserves the natural habitat of other species.
  • Reduction in the costs of running and servicing a building.
