How to Make a Symmetrical Lightning Bolt

11
    • 1). Lay your ruler across the width of your paper and mark the spot in the center. Draw a light line on your paper straight down the middle, using your ruler for accuracy. Ensure the line is light enough to erase later.

    • 2). Draw an upside-down triangle over the line you drew. The point at the bottom should meet the line you drew down the center of the page and both sides of the triangle should have equal area on either side of the line. Erase the bottom point of the triangle.

    • 3). Connect another upside-down triangle to the bottom of the first, where you erased the point. Again, the triangle should line up perfectly along the center line, ensuring both sides are of equal size. Erase the bottom of this triangle, like you did with the last one.

    • 4). Draw a final upside-down triangle down the center line, connected to your second triangle where you erased the tip. Measure the top of each upside-down triangle to ensure both sides are of precisely equal length. This is your basic shape for a symmetrical lightning bolt.

    • 5). Lightly erase and modify the sides of each upside-down triangle as you wish. For example, you could curve them to give them more of a lightning shape without breaking the rules of symmetry, so long as you ensure each side is a mirror image of the other.

    • 6). Erase the center line you drew in Step 1 when you're finished. Before erasing, it wouldn't hurt to check your measurements again just to be sure the image is symmetrical.
