How to Treat Carpet Water Damage
- 1). Find the area of carpet that has water damage. This will usually be done by noticing an area of carpet that is darker and looks wet.
- 2). Dry up the excess water immediately. Before you can treat the stain caused by carpet water damage, you have to get the area dry to ensure the floor under the carpet is not damaged. Drying the area will prevent mold from forming under the carpet as well.
- 3). Place towels on top of the water spots. Soak up the water by stepping on the towels. When you have the top area dry, place a fan facing the water spot and allow it to run to dry the entire area.
- 4). Vacuum the carpet after the entire carpet and pad are dry.
- 5). Mix water and vinegar in a bucket. Using a scrub brush, apply the mixture to the carpet water damage area. You can brush back and forth lightly to remove the water stain. The vinegar solution will also kill any mold and bacteria in the area.
- 6). Allow the area to dry completely and vacuum it again. Repeat the process until the water stain in gone and the carpet water damage is no longer visible.
