How to Mount an LCD TV on a Fireplace Mantle
- 1). Build a roaring fire in the fireplace and let it burn for an hour to allow time for the heat to build up in the fireplace. Hold a thermometer to the bricks of the fireplace. A reading higher than 90 degrees means the fireplace mantle is too hot of a location from which to hang your TV.
- 2). Hold the mounting plate of the TV mount to the wall and fill in the mounting holes with pencil marks. Remove the mounting plate from the wall.
- 3). Drill out the pencil marks on the fireplace using a masonry drill bit. Blow the debris out of the hole and wipe it away from the surrounding areas. Insert the wall anchors into the holes.
- 4). Hold the mounting plate to the fireplace so that the mounting holes are lined up with the wall anchors. Insert the lag bolts that come with the wall mount through the mounting holes into the wall anchors and tighten them with a wrench.
- 5). Turn the TV so the back is facing you and align the VESA holes of the mounting brackets to the VESA holes of the TV. Insert the VESA screws through the VESA holes of the mounting brackets into the TV. Tighten the VESA screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 6). Carry the TV to the mounted wall plate and slide the mounting brackets into place with the connectors located on the mounting plate. Some TV mounts will click into place while others need to be secured with screws. If your wall mount does not have a locking mechanism, place the security screws through the bracket connectors and brackets and tighten them to secure them into place.
