Hang several sheets of brown craft paper from a line in a well-ventilated area. Select different weights of paper to make different parts of your project. Heavier paper should form the basis of the project, while lighter paper makes fine detail. - 2). Apply contact cement to one side of the paper in a light, even coat using a wide foam brush. Let it dry until it is tacky, then apply contact cement to the other side as well. Do not inhale the fumes from the contact cement. Allow both sides to dry.
- 3). Test the craft paper to make sure it is completely dry, then tear it into the shapes you want to use to create your project.
- 4). Stick the paper shapes together to create your project. The craft cement coating makes the pieces adhere to each other. Build up layers gradually, as with normal papier-mâché, or fold and attach three-dimensional shapes.
- 5). Finish your project by painting, sanding, or lacquering as you wish. Barth mâché is light but durable. For increased strength and weatherproofing, add a coat of polyurethane varnish.
