Is Our Marriage Worth Saving?

15
This is a question no one really wants to ask. It's also one that almost everyone in a marriage will ask at some point along the way – whether that person admits it or not. "Is our marriage worth saving?" It seems so innocent and yet it's one of those questions that is born of pain and struggle. People don't ask questions like this when things are going well in the marriage. This is a question that's reserved for the low points in your marriage. Here are a few things to consider as you search for your answer.

Do the Good Times Outnumber the Bad?

Marriage is one giant roller coaster ride. Sometimes you're going to need "nerves of steel". Other times you're going to need the patience of a saint. When all is said and done though, your spouse is going to be one constant presence in your life for many years to come if you decide your marriage is one that is worth saving.

The way you determine this is to take a long and hard look at your marriage. Be as objective as possible. And, decide if the good times you have together overshadow the negative things about your marriage. Count the years. Count the blessings your marriage has brought to your life. Even if things seem to have been bad for quite a while, do you believe that the bad times are more prevalent or the good times?

Do You Want to Save Your Marriage?

Some people ask this question in hopes of finding justification to walk away. Other people ask in desperation. They are wildly searching for reasons to stay. Only you can really know where you fall in this equation. Perhaps you're somewhere in the middle. You believe that things are going seriously wrong and want to try to save your marriage before someone walks away.

Perhaps your marriage has already ended and you're trying to find out if it's possible to get your ex back and make your marriage work this time when it's failed in the past.

It doesn't matter what brings you to this point. Right now you need to answer one question. And you need to believe, with all your heart, the answer you provide: do you want to make your marriage work?

Is your marriage worth saving to you? That's what matters more than any other question you can ask. The resounding answer to that is that if you WANT to save your marriage then it is very much a marriage worth saving – as long as this is what you really want for honest reasons and not because you're trying to get even, get revenge, or worse, to kid yourself about what the future holds.
