Vaginal yeast infection is a type of infection which is commonly experienced among women. It is known to develop when the yeast found in the vaginal area multiplies in an extreme manner. The symptoms for yeast infection may range from being irritating to becoming severely unbearable. While they are not essentially very dangerous, it is still important to seek for yeast infection treatment, most especially for the safety and comfort of the person experiencing it. Here are some of the ways on how you can significantly relieve yourself from this kind of infection.

Symptoms of vaginal yeast infections commonly include the following:
  • Experiencing pain when urinating
  • Itching and burning feeling around the vaginal and labial area
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Redness, soreness, and swelling of the vulva
  • Having abnormal vaginal discharge

If you somehow experience some or all of these symptoms, you may choose to have yeast infection remedies in your own home. However, it is more advisable for you to go visit a doctor upon experiencing such symptoms for a more accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Yeast infections are generally diagnosed by performing an exam. During the test, the doctor will typically examine the vagina and get a sample of your vaginal discharge for it to be examined using a microscope.

Once the doctor confirms that what you have is indeed a vaginal yeast infections, the common treatment may be as follows:
  • Vaginal Treatment

This form of treatment often includes the use of a vaginal cream or tablet. Using an applicator, the cream or tablet is applied inside the vagina around bedtime. This may include prescription and non-prescription treatments. However, it is better if you ask your doctor as to which one would be the best for you. The duration of the treatments will usually last for about three to seven days, depending on how severe the infection is.
  • Oral Treatment

Another form of vaginal yeast infection treatment is the oral treatment. In here, a pill referred to as fluconazole (Diflucan) is prescribed by your doctor. While most women will only require a single dose, some women may need a second dose three days after the first dose. Usually, these are women who have a much complicated infection such as women who have severe symptoms, have medical problems, and those who have recurring yeast infections.

Although uncommon and mild, fluconazole may involve side effects such as having rashes, an upset stomach, and headaches. It may also tend to interact with various other medications, thus, it is very important to consult your doctor if you have any related concerns.

Furthermore, fluconazole is to be avoided especially during the first trimester of the pregnancy period since it may be dangerous to the fetus.

Just like with any other form of infection, a candida yeast infection or vaginal yeast infections must always be tested and examined by a doctor first before you begin any form of treatment. This will help ensure that you will have an accurate diagnosis and that you will avoid taking incorrect treatments which may have dangerous side effects.
