How to Cut the Costs of Car Insurance

In this article today I'd like to discuss several tips, tricks, and tactics that you can use to lower the cost of your car insurance - dramatically in some cases.
It seems like everything is getting more and more expensive as time goes on and nowhere else is this as evident than in the insurance industry.
Homeowners insurance is going up, health insurance is shooting through the roof, and even car insurance just keeps getting more and more expensive.
In this article today I'm going to give you several tips that you can use to lower the cost of car insurance, sometimes a lot! The first thing to do is compare rates on the Internet.
Spending just a half an hour or maybe an hour searching websites for different insurance companies can make a huge difference in rate quotes.
Don't just check the four or five major insurance companies that you see on TV, but check all of the local state insurance companies in your area.
You can often find a list of these companies online with a little searching.
There are also websites that will compare different rates for you.
Basically you have to type in your past driving history and then the websites themselves will use that information to search for the best rate tailored to your history.
A quick search at Google will find a list of these types of websites as well.
The next tip involves shopping often.
Insurance rates can fluctuate dramatically from year to year so a good rule of thumb is to simply realize that you will probably have to get different insurance every two years.
Then when two years are up, just realize that it's time to start shopping again for the best rate.
By switching insurance companies every couple of years you can be sure to have the lowest rate possible.
Finally, you can always lower the cost of your auto insurance by engaging in certain activities that will lower the prices.
These sort of things include having points removed from your license or removing an older car from your policy that you no longer use or taking your kids off your policy when they leave for college.
You can also maximize your policy's discounts by adding different things to your car itself.
These things include airbags and antitheft devices, and even antilock brakes and low mileage usage.
You may also be able to lower your rate if you are a non-smoker or an older driver who doesn't drive at night or somebody who carpools often.
These sorts of things are available but you have to be aggressive in your questioning of your insurance agent in order to get them.
So there you have several quick and easy tips that you can use to dramatically lower your costs for automobile insurance.
Not all of them may work for you but hopefully you can find something that is useful for your particular circumstance.
