As a Hollywood star, any publicist will tell you that how you act and operate online can make or break your popularity.
In fact there are those publicists which specialize in putting your name at the top of the largest social networks.
And once you get there with hundreds of thousands of friends, you can also command a large amount of money merely for Tweeting, or endorsing a given branded product or service.
Yes, it is important for a celebrity to mention they are getting paid for the tweet, but the publicist can also help with this and use that information to help elevate their celebrity status.
But consider this if you will Facebook's Super Popular List is not only for Hollywood screw-ups anymore, any person with a little bit of notoriety, and with that many friends is what marketers call an influencer on social networks.
In fact if they tweet that they are at Starbucks, or they are thinking about buying a new Ford automobile, their followers will listen, and perhaps consider buying the same items.
It's amazing how much power can be yielded on social networks, but then again you shouldn't be surprised as the average young American spends 3 to 4 hours online every single day.
Just as television commercials are able to command quite a bit of money due to the number of people watching, so too are those that have a huge number of friends.
Interestingly enough, it's not just movie stars, presidents, and people in the media that have tens of thousands of friends.
If one plays their cards right and has the proper social networking strategy, they can become very popular on Facebook and actually make the top 100 or top 1000 list.
Now you may be laughing if someone told you they were in the top 1000 list of Facebook participants with the most number of friends.
But again, I doubt if you would be laughing very hard when you realize that they could command actual dollars merely for promoting a certain brand to all of their friends.
Businesses also realize how important it is to have friends and they attempt to use their faithful loyal brand followers to sign up, and friend them on Facebook.
It matters very much to companies to have a presence on the social networks, and it helps reinforce brand loyalty.
Indeed I hope you will step back, out-of-the-box, and not be so hard on those folks that play on Facebook all day, as I have been.
You see, I am highly critical of those people who play on social networks, and for me it detracts my vision of what type of person they are.
I've often thought that people of low intelligence participate on social networks, but over the last few months, I've noted that more than five people of high intelligence are now participating, who I actually know are now on Facebook.
Well actually four or five, one I'm not sure about.
But that just goes to show you, that there are occasionally smart people on the social networks, and it's not just Hollywood screw ups.
Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
