How to Apply for a West Virginia Alcohol License
- 1). Decide if you need a Class A or Class B license. Class A licenses are for on-site consumption of alcohol. A person buys and consumes the alcohol while in the establishment such as a bar, club or restaurant. Class B licenses are for off-premise consumption, which means the person will buy the alcohol from the establishment and consume it elsewhere. Carryouts, liquor stores and wineries would fall into this category.
- 2). Determine what alcohol you want a license to distribute. You can apply for three different licenses in West Virginia: a wine license, a beer license and a liquor license. You can also get a combination of the three or all three. You will have to apply for each separately and pay the application fee for each.
- 3). Call the WVABCA to request the application packet for the alcohol license you want, or go to the WVABCA website, and download the appropriate application packet.
- 4). Fill out the application completely, and be sure to provide all documentation requested. According to the WVABCA, one major reason it denies an application is due to an incomplete application.
