DIY IR Infrared Thermography Cameras
- 1). Open up your Web cam by prying it apart with the screwdriver. Be careful not to break it. A gentle rocking motion is probably the best way to separate the two halves without damaging anything.
- 2). Remove the lens and look for the CCD (charged couple device), which is behind the lens. It is rectangular in shape and will have a red piece of glass or plastic stuck to it. This is the infrared filter. Remove this.
- 3). Pry off the infrared filter with the screwdriver. Run the glue stick over the film negative. These should be cut into squares and be about the size of a quarter. Stick them onto the CCD and wait 30 minutes for it to dry.
- 4). Glue the camera back together with a strong, instant adhesive glue and wait 30 minutes for it to dry.
- 5). Take photos in the dark. While you won't be able to take photos in complete blackness you should be able to get what looks like a washed-out image when the lights are turned off.
