Encore Theatre Company to host Phantom Ball

On the heels of its success with its inaugural production, THE MURDER ROOM, the Encore Theatre Company has set a date for its annual signature fundraising event. The Phantom Ball will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Green Hill Women's Club building, 10905 Lebanon Road (in front of Mt. Juliet Little League Park), from 7:30pm until midnight.

"We did so well with our first production and because we have some big plans to bring great theatre to Wilson County, we decided to go ahead with our first fundraiser," said Encore Theatre Company President Richard Christensen who hopes it will become an annual event.

"How appropriate it is that, as a theatre company, our signature fundraiser be a masquerade ball? We think it is a great idea."

According to Christensen, costumes are encouraged, but not required, "We hope people will see this as an adult opportunity to be a little silly and dress up, while at the same time, realizing the importance of the arts in our community. We cannot do much without community support: monetary support, as well as in-kind donations and attendance at our productions." Christensen stressed that this is an adults-only fundraiser and there will be a cash bar.

Christensen explained that there will be other opportunities for youth, such as the upcoming production of Charles Dickens's A CHRISTMAS CAROL, with roles for several children and teenagers, "Look for an upcoming audition notice about the production," he said.

Fundraising committee chairperson and Encore Theatre Company Vice President Mary Gingold says there will be a lot to do during the fundraiser, "We will have hourly séances, there will be psychics on hand for personal readings (for a nominal fee, of course), there will be a silent auction, a pumpkin-carving/decorating contest, a best-costume contest, and a "Monster Mash" dance contest.

All proceeds will benefit Encore Theatre Company." Gingold explained that one can e-mail or call the theatre to sign up for any of these contests, and she also stressed to bring your pumpkin already carved or painted and decorated to the event, "In the interest of safety for all we ask that the contest pumpkins are pre-carved" she said.

In addition to the various contests, the event will be catered, there will be a cash bar, and there will be a DJ on hand playing all of the favorites.

"There is no charge to enter any of the various contests," Gingold explained, "but all of the carved or decorated pumpkins shall become the property of Encore Theatre Company, and will be auctioned off to the highest bidder during the silent auction." Attendees may, however, purchase votes to vote for their favorite pumpkin, costume, or dancer, she added.

Wanting to make sure that "we give credit where credit is due," Gingold added that "Heather Scott (Encore Theatre Company corporate secretary and Wilson County Commissioner) has done an amazing job of organizing this huge event. Because of Heather's own personal love and enjoyment for Halloween, it was a natural route for us to take letting her plan the event and chair the committee."

Finally, both Christensen and Gingold stressed that "this is about fun and helping promote the arts in Wilson County. We can't do it without the community's support. If anyone wants to donate something for the silent auction or to the theatre in general, please contact us."

Tickets, which can be purchased through the company website (www.encore-theatre-company.org), by e-mailing info@encore-theatre-company.org, or by calling the theatre hotline at 615-598-8950, are $30.00 in advance or $35.00 at the door.
