Family Holiday Insurance Can Literally Save the (Holi)Day

48
With the myriad things you have to worry about when going on your annual family holiday, insurance is definitely something that can ease the load on your mind! You might be surprised, however, just how many people do not see it as a necessity. Don't fall into the trap of thinking this is just another unwanted expense you can do without - in fact, it should be top of your list.

When Do You Think About Family Holiday Insurance?

There are so many thins you will need to arrange before you leave: first, there are the schedules, the budgets, paperwork, passports, and, of course, making the crucial decision about where to go on your family holiday; insurance is probably the last thing on your mind at this stage.

Then, when you've decided where to go, you've booked tickets and accommodations, you've had your shots, ensured everyone has the attire for the climate (cold-weather attire for a ski trip, summer lightweight clothes and swimsuits for a beach holiday), made sure the meds are all packed, and all those many little things parents often worry about before going on a family holiday - insurance may still not have crossed your mind at this point. But it should have! It should actually be the very next thing you do after you have booked and paid for any flights and accommodation - no matter how far ahead.

The Expense that Pays For Itself

Every parent knows that just when you think you've thought of everything, life proves you wrong. Take the case of a young couple who decided to take their kids (not too young, by the way) to a fabulous out-of-the-way beach in Southeast Asia where tropical storms often occur. Luckily, they were wise and got good coverage, which they used. Not because of a typhoon, which wouldn't have been out of the ordinary, but because, as it turned out, because of sudden civil unrest necessitating the embassy to issue a tourist warning and cancel the holiday.

Cancellations. Or take the case of the families who were stuck in Europe when US flights were grounded during 9/11 - those who couldn't take return flights because of the haze in Shanghai, Beijing and Indonesia as well as other unforeseen emergencies. And while it may seem that choosing a less €problematic€ destination means not really having to consider such problems, there are still many things that may happen before and during a holiday that will make it a wise investment.

Sickness and Accidents At Home. Sickness, for instance, may hit someone prior to the trip. A good policy can reimburse you for your holiday trip expenses should you need to cancel in case of those emergencies.

Lost Luggage and Missed Connections. What if you and the family manage to make it to the destination airport - but your luggage doesn't? Your policy will help ensure its replacement, so you can just add shopping to your list of activities rather than having to go without. (Theft is sometimes covered too, by the way).

With all the things that can possibly go wrong before and during a holiday trip, the cost of a good policy definitely pays for itself in terms of peace of mind. As they say, don't leave home without it.
