Cairns, Far North Queensland

20
I have just recently visited Cairns in far north Queensland to investigate what the region offers for the holidaymaker and I have found a tropical paradise that is unequalled anywhere else in the world. This is the holiday destination that you have always dreamed about. Coconut palms fringe sandy tropical beaches and brilliantly coloured fishes and corals lie just beneath the surface waiting for you to snorkel by. In the hinterland there is magnificent rainforests, mighty rivers and fantastic waterfalls. The wild life is totally unique and some species are found no where else in the world.
Cairns [http://www.qldtravel.com.au/cairns.html] is one of the worlds leading dive destinations. The Great Barrier Reef lies just offshore and there is a multitude of tours to visit it. You can go on a day tour on a variety of different types of boat or the serious diver can join an extended live aboard cruise to the best reefs on offer either on the Great Barrier Reef or further out into the Coral Sea where absolutely pristine coral formations can be found. The fishing from Cairns is legendary. This is the home of the giant Black Marlin and a fleet of game fishing boats is just waiting for your charter. The Ribbon Reefs near Lizard Island are popular destinations for both the game fishing boats and the dive industry alike with famous locations like the Cod Hole where divers can swim with giant potato cod.
To the north past Port Douglas lies the Daintree rainforest and Cape Tribulation. Here lies one of the worlds last remaining expanses of virgin rainforest. In this region the forests extend right to the sea and there is excellent accommodation available in the rainforest so that you can experience the majesty of staying in one of natures most beautiful gardens. The wild life here is also very special with many rare and endangered species living here. Giant birds like the Cassowary can be seen here and it is one of only one or two places that they still exist. The rivers are full of crocodiles and the ocean is alive with a million different species.
On the Atherton Tablelands which are located to the west of Cairns you will find a rich agricultural region interspersed with rain forest and other magnificent attractions. The Undarra lava tubes, Lake Eacham, The Curtain Fig tree and the Chillagoe Caves are just a few and every visitor should take the "Skyrail" which will take you via a cable car gondola from Cairns to Kuranda, and then return to Cairns on the scenic railway the crosses the Barron Falls on its journey.
Cairns is really easy to get to. There is an international airport with regular flights from many overseas destinations as well as many daily flights from other Australian destinations. There is a huge amount of Cairns holiday accommodation on offer and you will be able to find something to suit your budget.
