How to Use Movable Type
- 1). Download Movable Type. Go to the Movable Type website (see Resources) and download the latest release of Movable Type.
- 2). Unpack the zipped files on your computer. The download will comprise a single zipped file. Using WinZip, 7-Zip or any file compression software, unpack the files into a folder on your computer.
- 3). Upload the files using your FTP program. Using an FTP program like FileZilla, AceFTP or CuteFTP, connect to your web hosting account. Upload the files in their respective folders as specified in the installation manual for Movable Type. A link to the file structure is listed below in the "Resource" section.
- 4). Create your Movable Type database. Log in to your hosting account and create a MySQL database for your Movable Type installation. After creating the database, note the name of the database, and the username and password to access it.
- 5). Access Movable Type. On your browser, type in "http://www.domain.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt.cgi" replacing www.domain.com with your own domain.
- 6). Create your administrator account. You will be asked to create an administrator account once you access the Movable Type installation on your browser. Enter your desired username and password.
- 7). Complete the installation. After creating the administrator account, you will be asked to enter information regarding your database name, username and password. This will complete the installation of Movable Type, after which you will be taken to the Administration Panel.
- 8). Create your first entry. Click on the "Create Entry" link at the top. Fill out the form to create your first blog entry and click on "Submit."
