- Seven major manufacturers produced Depression glass, including Jeannette Glass Co., Hocking Glass Co., Federal Glass Co. and U.S. Glass Co.
- The glass patterns evolved from colored glass and conical and square art deco designs to designs that resembled cut glass.
- In 1923, the Indiana Glass Co. produced a pattern called Avocado, the first Depression glass pattern. It came in white, green, pink and crystal, according to the National Depression Glass Association.
- Producing cheaper glass allowed people to continue working during the Great Depression, although companies also kept making better-quality glassware.
- The popularity of Depression glass waned as automation grew and shortages of materials increased during World War II.
