Does Home Remedy For Acne Really Work?

26
I have read some articles on the internet about some common items from the kitchen or home being used as an acne treatment product.
Some people use toothpaste as a remedy for acne and swear that it really works.
If we analyze that contents of the common toothpaste, it does not contain an ingredient that is recognized as anti-acne compound.
To control acne, a product should be able to kill the bacteria that cause acne or exfoliate the skin.
Most toothpaste do not contain antibiotics and they definitely cannot exfoliate the skin.
There are also claims that yoghurt or sour milk helps control acne.
This is based on the fact that sour milk contains lactic acid.
Lactic acid can exfoliate the skin and thus it can unplug blocked pores.
Although sour milk contains lactic acid, the volume of lactic found in sour milk or yoghurt is just way too small to help in acne.
Sour milk may help in exfoliating normal skin without acne but not on skin with active acne breakouts.
Some people use crushed aspirin to treat acne.
This particular acne treatment is based on the ability of salicylic acid to exfoliate the skin.
The studies done on the use of salicylic acid against acne is based on solutions, gel or cream of pure salicylic acid.
It is interesting to note that aspirin is not pure salicylic acid but it is actually a compound of salicylic acid and acetic acid.
Aspirin is acetyl-salicylic acid not salicylic acid.
In treating acne, salicylic acid is most effective and is widely studied by dermatologists not acetyl-salicylic acid or aspirin.
