Anxiety Disorder is just like any other disorder.
It takes steps to overcome it (or a recovery process) and just like any other disorder there are setbacks.
In this article were going to go through 3 Steps to Dealing with Setbacks in Your Anxiety Recovery.
I personally have to deal with setbacks in my anxiety at least once a week, sometimes more.
It's hard to keep yourself from unraveling every time you don't think you can handle something.
So walk with me through these steps and hopefully they will help you as much as they have helped me.
In Anxiety Recovery you like to tackle your Anxiety head on but in doing this you have a protective instinct inside of you that says "you're doing OK right now so don't push it or don't take that risk because you know you're going to become anxious.
" If we allow our protective instinct to rule then what we have is a setback in our Recovery.
So what do we do when this happens?
  1. Persistence - Is the act of refusing to give up or let go.
    Be persistent in your mind and to your protective self.
    Tell your protective self you can handle this situation, no matter how bad your body feels.
    If you continue to be persistent with yourself then your setbacks can be turned into your advantage and each time you will grow stronger knowing you can overcome each situation that comes your way.
  2. Confidence - Keep your confidence together and always in the back of your mind.
    Remember all the Anxiety attacks you've dealt with in the past, the way your mind and body felt during each one.
    Then remind yourself how you got through and went on, and it certainly didn't kill you but made you stronger.
  3. Proud - Be proud of yourself.
    You're a survivor of a terrible disorder.
    Anxiety and panic attacks can be I think the most unbelievably scary experience one can go through.
    At times it can actually feel like death just missed you and can you believe we overcome these feelings in everyday situations? For instance in the grocery store line or the kid's soccer game.
    I'm sorry but that is definitely something to be proud of.
