    • 1). Shut down the laptop. Unplug the AC power adapter as well as any external devices from the laptop. Pull the LCD panel closed, and place the laptop facedown on a flat work surface. Position the laptop so the front edge is facing you.

    • 2). Press down on the battery release button. Lift the battery pack out of its compartment in the lower left corner of the laptop, and then set it aside. Remove the memory compartment cover as well as its two retaining Phillips-head screws from the center of the laptop. Remove both memory modules from inside the compartment. Each module is secured in place by two plastic retention clips.

    • 3). Remove the single Phillips-head screw fastening the hard drive to its compartment in the upper right corner of the laptop. Pull the hard drive out of the compartment, and then set it aside. Do the same to the CD/DVD drive in the lower right corner. Remove all of the screws from the laptop's bottom casing. Flip the laptop over, and pull open the display panel as far as possible.

    • 4). Pry the securing keyboard strip from above the keyboard's top row of keys with a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the two Phillips-head screws revealed by the strip. Lift the keyboard out of the laptop, and place it facedown on the laptop's surface. Unplug the keyboard's cable from the motherboard. Remove the keyboard from the laptop.

    • 5). Remove the wireless card cover as well as its single Phillips-head retention screw from the laptop's upper left corner. Disconnect the two antenna cables from the wireless card. Disconnect all of the cables extending from either side of the display panel to the motherboard, and then disconnect all of the cables connected to the motherboard from the laptop's top casing. Carefully lift the entire top casing from the laptop's base, as the top casing and the LCD panel are one unit.

    • 6). Locate the coin-cell CMOS battery in the lower left corner of the motherboard. Use a thin flat-head screwdriver to pry the battery out of its socket. Place the new battery inside the empty socket with the "+" symbol facing upward.

    • 7). Repeat the laptop disassembly procedure in reverse to put your laptop back together.
