They studied the bark and leaves for their cosmetic and medicinal value.
Seabuckthorn oil is produced from the berries and seeds of this hardy plant, as this allows for the most nutrients to be extracted, and it is the oil of the Seabuckthorn plant that has been identified to contain the most nutritional value.
A supplement containing Seabuckthorn oil will be rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene and other important flavinoids.
All of these are known to be powerful antioxidants, which provide excellent protection to help control the levels of free radicals in the body that, if left unchecked, can cause damage to cells.
It has been said that seabuckthorn oil is the best, or one of the best sources of, vitamin E, vitamin C, beta carotene, flavinoids , essential amino acids, and unsaturated fatty acids, containing 90 bioactive ingredients, with at least 106 of these in the oil.
It contains double the quantity of vitamin E as wheat oil, and 35 times as much as soybean oil.
Also, Seabuckthorn oil supplies a very rich source of omega-9, omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.
As well as containing these health giving nutrients, seabuckthorn oil contains flavanoids, which have been shown to be an excellent antioxidant in their own right, and also seem to go some way to helping maintain a healthy cholesterol level and blood pressure.
Seabuckthorn oil can also be used for healing skin disorders or ailments such as eczema, burns, sores and wounds.
It also helps to combat the normal signs of aging such as wrinkles and dryness.
