The Benefits Of Shifting To The New Rebounding Traffic Bollards

27
It would be wonderful if we could go through our day to day life assuming that nothing bad is ever going to occur; but, we cannot and when we do, the result is generally worse. The same principle is the reason we have such things as seatbelts, which might be slightly uncomfortable, but are well worth it if we get in an accident, literally saving lives. Another way that we prepare for the possibility of disaster is with roadside barriers and traffic bollards.

There are many useful applications for bollards. Whereas a marine bollard is a vertical post to which a rope is tied to moor a vessel at a dock, land bollards are almost all designed to hamper the passage of vehicles. In some instances, a bollard will keep automobiles from unintentionally entering a pedestrians-only area. In others, the entrances to high-security zones may have bollards to prevent unauthorized vehicular access.  Bollards intended for traffic are generally defined as such because they manage the flow of multiple moving vehicles, rather than simply serving as guidelines for parking or for a single vehicle to use as reference. This sort of bollard won't be hit as frequently, but the impact it experiences when it is hit will be considerably greater. A standard bollard that is constructed from cement will shatter when the post is hit by an automobile traveling at a high enough speed. In cases where the bollard is buried slightly in the ground, removing the remains of a destroyed bollard can be far more trouble than installing a new one.

A bollard that is used for traffic, compared to one that is used for parking, has to be sturdier to compensate for the added impact it must endure. Like its smaller cousin, a bigger bollard can have a similar design. A newer revolutionary bollard design allows for posts that can angle slightly under impact, and then return to their original vertical position. These bollards don't need to be immediately replaced when they sustain a significant impact because their structural integrity is able to remain intact. The elastomer inside each bollards base is the secret to these rebounding bollards. When it's hit, at an angle that is not greater than twenty degrees, or less than a quarter of a right angle, this very elastic material enables the post to tilt. The bollard has the capacity to remain intact since the material absorbs the kinetic energy of the impact and is ready for use again due to the fact that the material can go back to its original shape in no time at all. These bollards also cause a lot less damage to the cars that hit them, which is a big relief to the drivers that hit them.

Roads have a tendency to change. Cities are constantly experiencing growth and change and as this takes place, one part of town may prosper as another falls into disrepair and one road becomes less utilized as another new road takes its place. The need to move one or more of these rebounding bollards is easier than moving a standard bollard because of the design. The way they are built also means that exchanging a single damaged part doesn't call for total disassembly.
