How to Use Herbs to Treat Hay Fever
- 1
Use Echinacea to prevent the assaults of hay fever. The adage, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," holds true for herbal treatments and hay fever. Echinacea stabilizes histamine-producing cells and white blood cells. Use it in tonics or in tea. A cup a day helps to boost your immunity against pollens and grains. - 2
Add garlic to your diet to defend against the causes of hay fever. Garlic's B vitamins strengthen your immune system. - 3
Soothe itchy, watery eyes with a Chamomile eye compress. An alternative to over the counter eye drops, chamomile's anti-inflammatory and cooling properties relieve swollen, sore eyes distressed by hay fever. Make a cup of weak Chamomile tea and cool. Soak a clean, soft cloth in the tea. Gently dab your closed eyelids. Use clean area of the cloth for each eye to avoid infection. - 4
Combine Eyebright, Hyssop, Elderflower and Echinacea in equal portions. Steep two teaspoons of the mixture in a cup of boiling water for 15 minutes. Drink a cup three times daily. - 5
Drink an infusion of equal parts Sage and Stinging Nettle. Pour a cup of boiling water over the herbs, steep fifteen minutes and drink. You can add honey, local to your immediate region, to help defend against the sources of your discomfort.
