Measure Your Activity for Greater Results - Blogging Results

56
We resist taking an objective look at our activities and our measurements.
Personally, I just like to write and love to get my ideas out there.
Anything else to me is just superfluous and is not something that is exciting to work on.
I have gotten to a place with my writing, where I can crank out a lot of content but it still feels like the work that I am doing is occupying quite a bit of my day.
The fact of the matter is that I am only spending about 2 hours per day on my writing and creating articles.
However, I have trained myself that I am going to start writing or recording videos whenever I have a free moment.
There are a couple of reasons for this - 1.
I am in the pursuit of mastery.
I want to get so good at this stuff that I can do it effortlessly.
Also, realize that pursuit of mastery is very close to being obsessive but it is important to be able to walk that fine line.
2.
I want to start making money quickly - My original commitment was to write 1 article a day and try for three articles a day.
Now, I am averaging about 10 articles a day and am trying to build up to about 30 articles a day.
I am not sure if I will get there but I am definitely heading in the right direction.
3.
I don't want to allow my conscious mind to start guiding the process - This is the main reason.
My conscious mind has taped me out of so many things in the past.
If I start to think, then I am more likely to go down a path of saying that I will not be successful and will not have what I want.
Instead, I just continue to work and let my subconscious mind get convinced that this is series and start to overwhelm the conscious mind.
Note: I have no idea if what I said is accurate or makes any sense but that is how it lives for me.
Now, back to the main point.
It is time to start measuring.
Below are some thoughts on measuring - 1.
There is no point in measuring until you get to a place where the measurements will make a difference - This may defy common advice but there was no point for me doing the measuring before I was doing enough activity where I was pushing myself.
In other words, I have to be pushing the limits of my productivity to get the advantages of measuring.
Otherwise, if you are not at that place, then focus on putting your head down and doing the work.
I am not saying don't measure anything but don't invest a lot of time putting together a measuring system until you reach that point.
2.
How to measure blog activity - Below are the key things that should get measured: a.
Traffic - This is an easy step.
All we have to do is plug in Google Analytics and that will track our traffic for us.
There are more measurements there than you will ever want.
b.
Posts Per Day - This is the amount of posts that are being posted per day.
c.
Total time to Complete Posts - This is the key component that is missing for me right now.
It just feels like I am writing all of the time.
Measuring the time to complete the posts will help to alleviate that feeling.
d.
Type of post that is being made
- Right now, I have three types of posts - Keyword Based Writing, Concept Based Writing and Videos.
I want to have a higher concentration of keyword based posts because they are easier to generate traffic for.
Although this post may be more valuable for the person reading it, it will be more unlikely that this post will be picked up by the search engines because it is not as keyword based.
Although this is a smattering of concepts and some of me working out some personal items, this article should be valuable for anybody looking for ways of improving their blogging skills.
