RCMP expose a colossal marriage con system in Montreal

24
Canada being one of the most aspired destinations for the immigrants across the globe, is now witnessing several fake marriage cases to get the citizenship of the country. As per the latest reports released by the RCMP, around 39 people have been booked in the case of forgery by the Montreal police. These people are said to be married with Canadian nationals under the fake conditions only to secure their citizenship in Canada. It is also revealed that this entire racket is initiated by a spurious immigration consultant Mr. Niag. He is responsible for offering the counsel to the individuals who wish to get their Visas renewed unofficially.

How it all started?

The fraud consultant Niag is the mastermind behind this marriage scam. While running his sham immigration consultancy, he in assistance with his associate arranged the young Canadian women to be a part of ‘convenience marriage' in return of some money. Most of the individuals desiring the Canadian Visa were originated from North Africa and wanted to stay behind in Canada with a new visa.

What officials say?

Canada has received around 200 cases of such fake marriages in 2008-2010 and this is a huge number that is a matter of concern. However, Canada Border Services Agency in a report says that this happens merely because administration is short of strict laws and regulation against the marriage fraud. Although there is a massive increase in the number of Canadian immigration through fraud marriages, Michel Niren, the Immigration Attorney Canada says that the problem is not as big as it seems. There are several visa applications arrived in the office that applied by the genuine applicants and it would not be fair to say that almost all applications filed on the basis of marriage are not legitimate.

Immigration Minister of Canada, Jason Kenny has even proposed that certain restrictions must be put on the marriage applications in order to crack down the fraud marriage scam. However he is convinced by the fact that in other countries like Pakistan, India an China the condition is worst than Canada and the officials of Canada would definitely be able to tackle this issue in a proper manner.

Solution to the problem

It has been anticipated that Harper Government's years old rule would be the best option to put a bar on such ‘convenience marriages'. According to that rule, a sponsored spouse cannot get a sponsorship from another spouse before five years.

Also Canada is now interested in adopting the American style of giving immigration to the newly arrived spouses in which a spouse would get the citizenship status only after two years of permanent stay in the country.
