How to Flush a Rabbit Out
- 1). Locate cover along farm fields or in farmsteads.
- 2). Post one hunter at the opposite end of the cover. If you have dogs, send them into one side of the cover while you (and others, if you have hunting companions) walk to the other side.
- 3). Walk slowly through the cover, but make as much noise as you can. Do not walk in a straight line, walking instead in an almost haphazard fashion to the other end of the cover. The idea is to spook the rabbits and get them running. If there are any logs or matted grass within the cover, make sure to kick it, since rabbits will seek refuge there.
- 4). Walk all the way to the end of the cover. Rabbits often will hang in the cover as long as they can, so you may have to nearly walk up to them before they will make a break through open space. If you have a dog working the cover, let him work at his own pace since he can sniff the locations of any rabbits.
