How to Build a Scale Windmill
- 1). Mark the short sides of your paper at 6 3/4 inches. Draw a line connecting these marks. Cut along the line, so that your paper's dimensions will be 6 3/4 inches by 11 inches. Decorate the sheet with colored pencils or markers.
- 2). Smear a thin line of glue along the edges of the back of your paper. Wrap the paper around the roll. This is your windmill's body.
- 3). Place two marks 1 inch below the top of the body. The marks must be on opposite sides. Punch a hole through each mark. Slide the drinking straw through the holes, making sure it moves easily when you turn it.
- 4). Cut two strips of cardboard, 8 1/2 inches x 1/4 inch. Glue them together, so that they form an equal armed cross. Save the remainder. Cut four strips of paper, 8 inches x 1/2 inch. Glue the paper strips lengthwise to the arms of the cross. The paper strips must be flush with the outer ends of the cross. The right edge of each paper strip must be flush with the right edge of each arm of your cross.
- 5). Place the cross on your work area, so that the paper is face down. Cut the drinking straw to a length of 3 inches. Glue the straw to the center of the cross, so that it stands up. Let the glue dry completely. Glue the windmill body to the remainder of your cardboard sheet. Let the glue dry completely. Insert the straw into the holes of the windmill body.
