- Children up to age 18, families with children up to age 18, pregnant women, those who are disabled, those who are out of work, those working for a qualified employer, those who are HIV positive, those who need long-term care services and those aged 65 and over are all eligible to receive help under the MassHealth program.
- MassHealth programs include Standard, CommonHealth, Family Assistance, Basic, Essential, Prenatal, Limited and Buy-In.
- Each program has its own income guidelines. For example, Basic and CommonHealth require an income of no more than 100% of the federal poverty level, while Family Assistance requires an income of no more than 200% of the FPL for families or 300% for certain uninsured children.
- The assistance is different for each type of coverage. For example, Standard pays for all covered medical costs, with no premiums or deductibles. With CommonHealth, a deductible or premium may be required. Family Assistance and Basic pay a portion of your private insurance premiums or allow you to enroll in a low-premium plan run by the state.
- Women enrolled in the Prenatal program can receive services without proof of income for up to 60 days, at which time the state will determine if they are eligible to enroll in another MassHealth program.
