How to Download a DVD to an MP3
- 1). Download and install Audacity and the LAME MP3 encoder (see Resources for both links).
- 2). Launch Audacity and go to "Edit" then "Preferences." Under the "Audio I/O" tab go to the "Recording" section and select "What U Hear" next to "Device."
- 3). Put the DVD you want to record in your disk drive. In Audacity, click the "Record" button. Play the portion of the DVD you want to record. When finished, click "Stop."
- 4). Go to "File" then "Export as MP3." The first time you do this you will be asked to locate the "lame_enc.dll." You can find the file under "C:\Program Files\Lame for Audacity." Select the file, then click "Open" and "OK." The recorded audio will now be saved as an MP3.
- 1). Download and install two separate programs: HandBrake and Format Factory (See Resources). Handbrake can rip a DVD to a video file, and Format Factory can convert the video to audio.
- 2). Insert the DVD you want to rip into your disk drive and launch HandBrake. Click on "Source" and choose the DVD drive.
- 3). Go to "Tools" and then "Options." Under the "General" tab click "Browse." Choose the folder you want to save the video file to and click "OK." close the "Options" menu.
- 4). Select the portion of the DVD you want to convert. DVDs are usually split into "titles" and the largest is typically the movie itself. Go to the drop-down menu next to "Title" and select the title you want to convert. If you are not sure, play the DVD in your computer and look at the running time of the section you want to convert. Match the running time of that section with a title to choose the right one.
- 5). Go to "Output Settings" and select "MP4 File." Click "Start" and let HandBrake rip and convert the file to the directory you chose. After it is finished, close HandBrake.
- 6). Open Format Factory. Click on the "Audio" tab and select "All to MP3."
- 7). Drag the M4V file you just created into the program window and click "OK" and then "Start" to convert it to an MP3 file.
- 1). Download and install ZC DVD Audio Ripper. Launch the program after installation is complete.
- 2). Click on the last button on the right side to open the "Output Setting" menu. Next to "Output Profile" select "MP3 - MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)."
- 3). Click the button next to "Output Folder" and select the folder you want to save the MP3 to. Click "OK."
- 4). Click on the folder icon and select your DVD drive. Playback of the DVD will automatically begin. You can click on the icon that looks like a movie clapboard to select chapters or acces the DVD menu. After you select where you want playback to begin click the start button to rip the audio and save it to the directory you chose.
