Define Cpe
- To maintain a license in a specific area, such as health care, the state boards require CPE to ensure the licensed individual is up to date on training and current trends in the industry.
- CPE can consist of an industry conference, a webcast, a podcast, a teleconference or self-study.
- The cost of CPE can range from $25 for a webcast to thousands of dollars for an out-of-town industry conference. Some employers will assist with the cost of CPE.
- The amount of CPE hours required for a given profession is dictated by the state boards that license the profession as well as professional organizations to which an individual belongs. One CPE credit hour is given for every 50 minutes of study.
- For accountants, CPE has no other name. For attorneys, CPE is referred to as CLE, Continuing Legal Education. For doctors, CPE is referred to as CME, Continuing Medical Education.
