How to Update to Apple Tiger

14
    • 1). Insert the Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger installation disc into the CD/DVD-ROM drive of your Macintosh computer. If your Mac uses a CD/DVD slot, slide the disc directly into the slot face up. If your Mac uses a tray, open the tray by pressing the "Eject" button either beside the tray or on your keyboard. The "Eject" symbol includes a triangle with a horizontal line beneath it. Press the button a second time to close your tray.

    • 2). Restart your computer using the installer window. When you insert the installation disc into your CD/DVD-ROM drive, a pop-up window will appear on your screen, featuring a giant letter X and the words "Mac OS X Tiger." Click the "Restart" button in the lower-right corner of the window to reboot your Mac using the installation disc. It may take a few minutes for your computer to restart.

    • 3). Click the "Continue" button in the lower-right corner of the installation window to begin the installation process. The window will appear upon startup, and includes a brief introduction to the Tiger software.

    • 4). Follow the onscreen instructions to complete your installation. First, the system will ask you to agree to the software license. Take a few moments to read the terms of service and then click the "Agree" button in the lower-right corner of the window.

    • 5). Click your main hard drive when asked to select a destination for your software upgrade. The hard drive icon appears near the top of the installation window and resembles an animated image of a gray computer drive. Click it once to highlight it, and then click the "Continue" button in the lower-right corner of the window.

    • 6). Click the "Upgrade" button on the next screen to upgrade to Tiger from your previous operating system. The installer will then begin the installation process, which you can monitor by observing the progress bar on your screen. When the process concludes, the installer will ask you to restart a second time. Click the "Restart" button in the lower-right corner of the window.
